Dave McCormack - News

Custard Spaces by the side of the road

Here's the latest news:

Dave has uploaded some new songs to his myspace account, including a cover of Hey Ya by Outkast, and a catchy new song called Hesitation Nation.

Dave has some upcoming gigs that you may like to attend:

  • 9th October 2008 @ Rics in Brisbane
  • 11th October 2008 @ Gympie, Queensland
  • 9th November 2008 @ The Famous Spiegel Tent, Sydney Opera House
  • 16 Jan 2009 @ Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane

The Sydney gig sounds great - here is the press release:

Come along and help Dave count. That’s right, he’s counting the beat: two, three, four, five…all the way to 19 songs - one for every year he has spent in showbiz. Hand picked from his extensive cattle dog, each song will be a finely crafted pop gem that is guaranteed to dazzle. Starting out as a lonely guy – that is solo – as he did, Dave will present the tunes of a nascent career that could only hint at the joy that would be spread by Custard, the re-floating of the Titanics and the mainstream exposure of the Polaroids. Joining him in his introspective retrospective will be sidemen Shane Melder (Sidewinder), Cameron Bruce (Paul Kelly, The Sideshow), Jason Walker (Last Drinks) and Dylan McCormack (Gentle Ben and His Sensitive Side) plus you – the audience. To close the evening, Dave will perform a special a song written on the day for the day. Join Dave and his friends at The Famous Spiegeltent on the Opera House Forecourt to celebrate the career of this remarkable and at times off-beat Australian singer songwriter.

According to Dave's PR company, he is meant to be releasing a best of compilation this month.  It will feature songs from 1990 - 2008.

And don't forget, Dave McCormack has a great new EP out, called Cassingle.  It features six tracks (This kind of music, Text book, AVO, Hey Lord, Rockstar, I won't let you down).  To have a peak at the EP's snazzy artwork, click on the thumbnail to the left.  The EP is available on itunes and in good record stores.  It can also be purchased from playme.com.au.

One last thing folks may be interested in is visiting the Adults Today myspace page.  Adults Today was Glenn Thompson (drummer) from Custard's old band, and also featured Dave McCormack's brother Dylan.  There are a couple of songs up on the site, including an early version of the Custard hit Music is Crap.

Custard Spaces by the side of the roadCustard's long awaited DVD, The Spaces by the Side of the Road, was released in late 2007.  It features most of the band's music videos, the Wahooti Fandango TV commercial, and some live footage.  Click here to download an information sheet about the Custard DVD.  The DVD can be purchased online from Play4Me and Sanity.  You can read an interview with Dave McCormack about the DVD here.  Also, if you visit the RTR FM website, you can listen to Dave discussing the DVD.  You'll need to jump to the part in the stream where "Lucky Star" comes on.

Speaking of all things McCormack and DVD, I (Dave, the  webmaster) am currently looking for footage - be it TV appearances or home videos, of Custard and other Dave McCormack projects so that I can compile a second Stalkerbait bonus disc. If you have anything tucked away, please send me an email.

And don't forget, Write Your Adventures Down,, the Go-Betweens tribute album that Dave coordinated, is out now.
